K-Beauty Shanghai (May 22) and K-Healthcare Beijing Delegation (May 28) held consecutively
Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR) and Korea Trade Insurance Corporation collaborate to support Korean companies' exports
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Duk-geun) and KOTRA (President Yoo Jung-yeol) held ‘2024 K-Beauty Shanghai’ in Shanghai, China on May 22nd, followed by the ‘2024 K-Healthcare Beijing Delegation’ in Beijing on May 28th. The events aimed to respond to changes in China's cosmetics and healthcare market trends and accelerate exports to China.
First, at ‘K-Beauty Shanghai’ on May 22nd, in collaboration with the Korea Federation of SMEs, Gangnam-gu and Geumcheon-gu of Seoul, a ‘Shanghai Beauty Expo (CBE 2024)’ was held, including a △Korea-China Cosmetics Business Forum and △one-on-one business consultation sessions. At the forum, in collaboration with the China Customs Association, they analyzed the changing cosmetics consumption trends, such as consumer polarization and the reversal of online and offline markets, and presented strategies for entering the local market using these insights. Notably, they focused on the fact that the online market share of China's cosmetics market surpassed 50% for the first time last year, creating new export opportunities for Korean companies.
During the subsequent business consultation sessions, consultations were arranged between 30 Korean companies participating in the Korea Pavilion and online platform buyers, including Douyin and Xiaohongshu vendors. Furthermore, social marketing such as short-form videos and live commerce were supported at the Korea Pavilion to help companies secure new distribution channels.
Following this, at the ‘K-Healthcare Beijing Delegation’ held on May 28th in Beijing, △a Korea-China Healthcare Business Forum and △business consultation sessions were held. An exhibition space was also created for potential Chinese partners to experience the products, maximizing the impact of consultations. Considering the characteristics of the Chinese healthcare market, where market entry is challenging, consulting services were also provided by field. KOTRA's FTA Utilization Support Center, Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, Korea Intellectual Property Protection Agency, and Korea Testing & Research Institute jointly operated booths on-site, providing one-stop support for consultations on △free trade agreement (FTA) utilization, △trade insurance, △intellectual property rights, and △certification.
At the healthcare forum, under the theme of ‘The Present and Future of Korea-China Healthcare Industry Cooperation,’ institutions and companies from both countries shared industry trends and cooperation cases. The Beijing Branch of Korea Investment Partners and the Northeast Asia Research Center of Shandong University presented the market and policy trends of both countries, while JFC International Hospital and Northland Bio shared their experiences in entering and collaborating with the healthcare industry. Finally, the China branch of KTR and the Asia Research Institute of the Ministry of Commerce Research Institute of China introduced certification methods related to the healthcare field and how to utilize FTAs and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
During the subsequent consultation sessions, 25 Korean companies held one-on-one consultations with buyers on-site. Leading K-Healthcare companies such as Osstem Implant, Sera젬, CheongKwanJang, ChungKunDang Health, and TheJohnBizOn, along with promising domestic SMEs, participated to tap into the rapidly growing Chinese healthcare market.
Hwang Jae-won, Head of KOTRA's China Regional Headquarters, explained the motivation behind the event, stating, “At a time when high-level exchanges, including the Korea-Japan-China Summit, are becoming more active, we have created this business exchange opportunity to revitalize cooperation between the two countries in the beauty and healthcare sectors.” He also emphasized KOTRA's commitment, saying, “The Chinese cosmetics market is rapidly changing due to factors such as domestic production, polarization, and online expansion, and the healthcare industry is experiencing growth in scale and consumer base. KOTRA will do its utmost to boost exports to China in these areas.”
