Social enterprise Spring Shine sponsored the '2024 Earth Run: Revival of Coffee Grounds' event with 15 million won worth of eco-friendly kits, raising awareness about the importance of coffee grounds recycling.
The event, taking place on September 28th, includes a variety of programs such as a coffee grounds collection run and an exhibition of coffee grounds recycled products, educating participants about the importance of environmental protection.
Spring Shine provides ESG kits incorporating artwork from artists with developmental disabilities, contributing to both environmental protection and social value creation.
Social enterprise Springshine has sponsored 15 million won worth of goods for the ‘2024 Earth Run: Coffee Poop's Revival’ event hosted by the Ji-So-Haeng Social Cooperative (hereinafter referred to as Ji-So-Haeng).
The ‘2024 Earth Run: Coffee Poop's Revival’ event will be held on September 28th. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and public discussion about the issue of coffee grounds waste. To achieve this, Ji-So-Haeng is recruiting 500 offline participants. Participants will run through the Mapo-gu area, known for its high concentration of cafes, collecting coffee grounds placed in front of each shop to earn stamps.
The collected coffee grounds will be gathered at the event's finish line and used in a performance. Various eco-friendly experience booths will also be operated during the event, including exhibitions of coffee grounds recycled products, coffee grounds recycling experiences, and experiences with ESG kits provided by Springshine.
Springshine sponsored 15 million won worth of Character Cushion DIY Kits and Marine Protected Species Board Game Coloring Kits for this event hosted by Ji-So-Haeng. The Character Cushion DIY Kit was developed using the design of Springshine's mascot, 'Hae-ssal-i,' a developmentally disabled lion. It is an ESG product made using recycled cotton from Usi-san, a company that produces upcycled products from waste plastics. The Marine Protected Species Board Game features illustrations of marine protected species drawn by 'Jjauk,' a developmentally disabled artist at Springshine.
Kim Jong-su, CEO of Springshine, stated, “We are delighted to join Ji-So-Haeng in promoting recycling and environmental protection through our ESG kit sponsorship. When coffee grounds are incinerated as general waste, 338kg of carbon dioxide is emitted per ton of coffee grounds. If they are landfilled, they produce methane, which has a greenhouse effect 84 times greater than carbon dioxide. We hope that participants in the ‘2024 Earth Run: Coffee Poop's Revival’ event will gain a better understanding of the problem of discarded coffee grounds and the importance of environmental protection through recycling. We hope that Springshine's ESG eco-friendly kits will enrich the event.”
