Operating only during rush hour (7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, 2 hours) / commute time based on the revised Passenger Transportation Business Act Article 81.

Over 1.1 million cumulative transactions and maximized matching rate through carpool service linked with transit points and destination parking lots.

Wisemobile (CEO Park Heung-rok), the operator of the smart parking platform application ‘ParkingPark’, announced on May 23rd that it is launching a ‘Parking to Carpool’ service based on ParkingPark, which has recorded over 800,000 cumulative downloads. The company has been recruiting drivers since April and will officially enter the ‘mobility’ area of ride-sharing ‘carpool’ service in May.

The parking app ParkingPark opened in December 2013 and has recorded 800,000 integrated Android and iOS downloads and 1.1 million cumulative transactions. It is a parking fee discount and payment platform that allows users to utilize over 2,000 affiliated parking lots near major traffic-congested hotspots, subways, and station areas at discounted prices through a time commerce method.

Wisemobile has been deliberating on additional business expansion models for its ‘parking app platform’ for the past three years, considering ESG management and collaborating with users, investors, and shareholders for the launch of the ‘carpool’ service. After completing surveys, verifying service operation and technical implementation, and conducting legal reviews, the company has been preparing for the development of a legal ‘carpool’ service for office workers.

ParkingPark’s carpool linked to parking avoids conflict with Article 81 (Prohibition of Paid Transportation of Private Vehicles) of the Passenger Transportation Business Act, revised and enforced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (August 27, 2019 / February 18, 2020, effective January 1, 2021), by legally providing services to office workers between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM on weekdays.

Unlike conventional carpool services, ParkingPark enhances the matching rate by providing a list of drivers who have pre-registered their commute routes when the starting point, transit point (destination 1), and destination (destination 2) are inputted. Passengers can select a driver that aligns with their preferences from the list and determine the exact time and location via chat (message window).

To become a ParkingPark carpool driver, individuals must undergo a seven-step verification process that includes mobile phone real-name authentication, driver verification through a frontal photo, driver’s license, vehicle registration certificate (actual vehicle ownership), comprehensive auto insurance and driver insurance, and business card or employee ID card. Those who fail the qualification verification process are ineligible to participate as a driver.

Passengers can easily utilize the carpool service by simply registering their commute route after joining as a member. Business card registration is optional, and both drivers and passengers are automatically enrolled in KB Insurance’s ‘Carpool Peace of Mind Insurance’ free of charge.

Wisemobile CEO Park Heung-rok stated, “We are filled with anticipation as we launch the ‘carpool’ service, which disappeared with the 2020 legal revision, having communicated with customers, addressed service improvements and technical challenges, and completed legal reviews. As we enter the carpool market targeting office workers, we plan to continue our business while considering the symbiosis of users (passengers) and the transportation and parking industry.”

Meanwhile, ParkingPark is currently accepting carpool driver applications from existing parking app customers, and when customers pay for parking, they are shown a list of passengers who have registered the corresponding parking lot as their destination. Drivers can receive approximately 80% of the amount paid by passengers as their earnings, with an estimated monthly income of 300,000 won. This is expected to increase parking ticket sales by over 10%. The company plans to offer differentiated services through its unique ride-sharing service by collaborating with large company employees, new town apartment complexes, used car apps, local industrial complexes, and local governments.
