The 'Money20/20', a leading global fintech exhibition and a stage for financial businesses, concluded its three-day event from April 23 to 25 in Bangkok, Thailand, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). The event included fintech-related discussions, networking, and impactful industry nights, culminating in a three-day schedule that drove industry innovation.

Over 3,000 participants and more than 200 journalists attended the first 'Money20/20 Asia' event. Representatives from 87 countries, including 24 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, participated. More than 250 key industry speakers from across Asia delivered impactful discussions across four sessions. Among them, 45% were female executives and fintech leaders, and over 60% of the total speakers were CEOs.

This year's event covered key topics including Artificial Intelligence (AI), cross-border payments, open banking, digital assets, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and financial inclusion. Notably, KASIKORNBANK, one of Thailand's largest commercial banks, announced a key partnership with J.P. Morgan at the Money20/20 Asia press luncheon on April 23. The joint initiative, dubbed 'Project Carina', aims to leverage decentralized blockchain and Web3 technologies to significantly reduce cross-border payment processing time from the traditional 72 hours to just 5 minutes.

Key regulatory bodies from the Asia-Pacific region actively participated in the discussions. Out of 189 sessions, 20 were dedicated to explaining the latest trends and the impact of regulatory technology with the involvement of Asian regulatory agencies or fintech/financial institutions.

A session led by Dr. Wong Huei Ching from the Securities Commission Malaysia explored the evolution of fintech in Malaysia's capital market. The session focused on finding ways to drive innovation while ensuring investor protection.

Dr. Wong remarked, "Malaysia is open for business. Our 14 principles contain the core approach to innovation. We recognized the importance of synergy from the outset, and we took a collaborative approach, with citizens, government, and industry players working together. We prioritize using technology to achieve goals like democratizing financial services or pursuing higher social objectives, beyond just technological advancements."

Key topics such as security, mobile ID, and fraud prevention in the AI era were discussed in numerous sessions throughout the event.

Justin Lie, Founder and CEO of SHIELD, emphasized the importance of trust factors and multilateral collaboration in combating fraud in the digital age during a session titled 'Trust Tech, Empower Lives: Redefining Financial Inclusion in the AI Age'. SHIELD also co-hosted the 'Trust Summit' with Money20/20 Asia, sharing the common goal of fraud prevention.
