The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold the ‘2024 SusHi Tech Tokyo Global Startup Program’, Asia’s largest global startup conference, from May 15th to 16th. Over two days, nearly twice the size of last year, 400 companies from 40 cities will participate in the exhibition, and more than 40,000 visitors are expected.

This program is designed to establish ‘new sustainable values’ that solve urban problems throughout the world. The main urban issues to be addressed include demographic changes, environmental and energy issues, aging infrastructure, and the preservation of culture through advanced technology and digital know-how.

The main programs include: △ A session where Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, and Adi Ignatius, Editor-in-Chief of Harvard Business Review, will participate in a discussion on ‘Cities of the Future and Innovation’, △ A Pitch Contest with 507 companies from 43 countries, △ Startup Exhibition Hall, △ Investor Pavilion, △ Startup Training Zone, △ Product & Solution Self-Promotion Stage. In particular, speaking sessions and pitch (promotion) contests where participants can showcase their ideas will be attended by startups, investors, major companies, and passionate students from around the world. Other notable panelists and speakers participating in this program include Jen Cargter, Global Technology Lead at Google, and John Roos, Founding Partner of investment firm Geodesic Capital.

The Executive Director of the ‘2024 SusHi Tech Tokyo Global Startup Program’ said that this year’s ‘SusHi Tech Tokyo Global Startup Program’ is Asia’s largest innovation conference. He also expressed his honor to host such a prestigious event in Tokyo. He also emphasized that, based on the vision of creating a foundation for innovation to solve global urban issues, he hopes that every May, startups, investors, influential figures from industry, academia, and students from around the world will gather in Tokyo to create a hopeful future together.

Introduction to Tokyo Global Startup Program

Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s ‘Global Innovation with STARTUP’ program has been ongoing since November 2022. Through this program, under the ‘10x10x10 Innovation Vision’ strategy, it is focusing on increasing the number of unicorn companies and startups in Tokyo, as well as public and private startups tenfold in the next five years. Starting with the ‘City-Tech.Tokyo’, held at Tokyo International Forum for two days in February 2023, attracting 26,000 visitors, ‘2024 SusHi Tech Tokyo’ will expand its content with discussion sessions and contests, and raise the bar.
