Providing education on art market and distribution channels to strengthen the self-reliance of local artists

Preference given to graduates when participating in the Hwaseong City Artist Goods Development Project

Hwaseong Cultural Foundation (CEO Kim Shin-a) will operate the ‘Business Bootcamp for Artists’, a local artist education program designed to help local artists understand and respond to the changing art market and distribution channels, at the Dongtan Integrated Cultural Center from June 4th.

This ‘Business Bootcamp for Artists’ consists of 2 special lectures and 3 main lectures. The special lectures are open to anyone interested in the field, including artists and citizens of Hwaseong City, while the main lectures are for artists and aspiring artists. Students will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis from May 21st through the Hwaseong Cultural Foundation website. For the main lectures, those who can participate in the entire course will be given priority.

The 2 special lectures are on business and marketing cases in the visual arts and performing arts fields respectively. △Special Lecture ① ‘Visual Arts: Opening New Art Markets (June 12th)’ will be delivered by Lee Ji-hyun, co-CEO of Neolwihan Culture & Arts. △Special Lecture ② ‘Performing Arts: New Distribution/Marketing Trends that Captivate Audiences (July 3rd)’ will be delivered by Ji Hye-won, Professor at the Graduate School of Business Administration, Kyung Hee University, majoring in Cultural Arts Management.

The 3 main lectures aim to analyze current art market trends and various distribution channels, and ultimately explore the appropriate direction for developing art products. △Main Lecture ① ‘Reading Art Market Trends (June 4th)’ analyzes new trends in the changing art market. △Main Lecture ② ‘Understanding and Analyzing Art Distribution in the Digital Age (June 19th)’ discusses NFT and crowdfunding, new art distribution channels that have emerged in the digital age. △Main Lecture ③ ‘Exploring Directions for Art Product Development (June 25th)’ explores how to develop and distribute artwork as art products (goods).

The Hwaseong Cultural Foundation stated that it hopes the ‘Business Bootcamp for Artists’ will provide local artists with an opportunity to understand the market and distribute their work in new ways.

Meanwhile, the Art Base Team of the Hwaseong Cultural Foundation is planning a Hwaseong City Artist Goods Development Project for the latter half of this year, and graduates of this educational program will be given bonus points when applying for the project.
